House was cob blasted in 2006. View pictures from 2006, Atha job for original finish removal. It was a purple house. Owners wanted to add more protection to the siding & refinish the deck. Note smoke damage from direct vent heater, both before & after pictures.

The Gills have added a coat of Wood Iron about every 3 or 4 years for the past 11 years to their log sided home. When the siding is pressure washed, no wood fibers are forced out due to the bonding of the resins in Wood Iron. Most wood looses fibers when pressure washed. Wood Iron has helped keep their home looking new & almost halted any aging of the wood. "It looks great," said Mary.

This project involved refinishing a deck and applying another coat of Wood Iron to shake siding on various walls. The deck needed a complete sanding to remove the old finish. The siding needed a light wash. The deck is made of mahogany.

This project involves removing all of the paint from the siding, deck & rails, & facia. To remove the old surface, we must cob blast the siding. This technique involves a 185 CFS air compressor & a cob blasing machine. Bits of ground up corn cob are blasted at the walls, as with sand blasting. The surface paint is removed, leaving the natural wood siding. The surface is then sanded to remove paint around the knots. Two coats of wood iron is applied.
To remove the paint from the deck, we will dismantle the deck & rails. The paint will then be sanded off on a machine called a "Time Saver". It will handle up to 6 - 2X6 decking planks - a real time saver. All of the baulisters, planks & cap rails will be sanded to new wood. Then two coats of Wood Iron will be applied.

This home had an old finish that could not be removed with stain removers, so we cob blasted it. This removed the old finish without damaging the wood. After rinising the house, we applied Wood Iron.

The Atha home was painted with a purple, which the owners did not like. Cob blasting is similar to sand blasting, except we use ground corn cob as a medium with a high pressure air compressor. It raises the grain slightly, however removes 99% of the old paint. The cob is recycled through the blaster several times before it is too round & full of wood pulp to use. We rinse the siding to remove all dust & pulp before applying Wood Iron on the surface. It is now returned to natural looking wood.
